Thanks to all those who did the snow dance yesterday; it is currently dumping here in Nozawa Onsen! Since snow began falling in the early hours of the morning, we’ve received about 10cm in the past few hours down here in the village and slightly more up top. Quite often this season the pattern we’ve seen is a heavy dump of snow at the end of the week, in time for the weekend. This time though it’s right in the middle of the week. The mountain should be fairly quiet today with fresh snow to be found all day long.

The forecast is predicting another 10cm for the day, though at this rate and with these sizeable, fluffy snowflakes we could easily surpass that. Temperatures are hovering at the -12°C mark up top, and -4°C down here in the village, so dress wisely! These temperatures should continue through until Friday, before slightly warming up. As Friday rolls around, we should see some more heavy snow blanketing Nozawa in time for the weekend.

Enjoy the fresh powder and stay safe up there!

Quickly piling up around Nozawa
