It has been a slower start to the snow in Nozawa Onsen this season after the first dumps in November. That however looks like it will change in a big way starting Monday December 14th with some good falls expected and freezing levels dropping
Have had a lot of guests up already and they are still having a great time and finding lots of fun things to do in Nozawa Onsen and also the surrounding areas. Here are a few shots
The World famous Snow Monkeys are just a 45 minute drive from Nozawa Onsen. It is at a mystical place called Jigokudani or Hell’s Valley as it is known due to the steep surrounding walls and swirling steam spouting form the earth
It is pretty amazing to see these little guys running around and taking a dip in the hot springs, remarkably similar to human beings!
The Ski Resort of Yokoteyama in Shiga Kogen has been open for a while now and had some fun early season conditions for all to enjoy while waiting for Nozawa Onsen Resort to open which according to the Resort President will be as soon as the snow hits so hoping for next week. In the meantime we have been taking guests over to Shiga Kogen to get in a few nice turns
There is actually a bit of snow up the top of Nozawa Onsen with the snow line starting at about Uenotaira and running to Yamabiko.
The Lifts are yet to open so the guests have been doing a bit of pre-season training and hiking up to the top for a sled ride, snowball fight or to make a snowman. Great way to see some of this beautiful scenery and work up a sweat. The onsens await on the way down…
